The club is a sponsored activity of the Brookhaven Employees Recreation Association (BERA), whose mission is to foster community engagement through recreational, social, and cultural activities across the laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Badminton Club supports this mission by providing an inclusive and active environment where members can connect, exercise, and enjoy the sport. Membership is open to BNL employees and their eligible guests, in accordance with BERA policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Club Activities<\/strong><br>Members are welcome to participate in casual play on reserved courts during weekday lunch hours, as well as on Tuesday and Friday evenings starting at 5:00 PM. Two courts are available on the west side of the BNL gymnasium. Players of all skill levels\u2014from beginners to advanced\u2014are encouraged to join.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court reservations are coordinated through the Recreation Office in accordance with BERA facility usage procedures, and courts may be reserved one day in advance of play. With valid badge access to the gym, members may also use the facility on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Annual Tournament<\/strong><br>The club organizes an annual badminton tournament, typically held from March through May, featuring both singles and doubles competitions. For example, the 2026 tournament runs from March 20 through May 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Singles Division:<\/strong> Players are grouped into Class A and Class B, with a champion determined in each class.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Doubles Division:<\/strong> Teams are formed to balance skill levels, combining beginner, intermediate, and advanced players to promote both competition and enjoyment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The tournament serves as a key community-building event, aligned with BERA\u2019s emphasis on activities that foster engagement and participation. Participants receive event T-shirts, and the finals include refreshments, awards, and prizes. All participants in competitive events must be 18 years of age or older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Club Commitment and Operations<\/strong><br>The Badminton Club operates in accordance with BERA and BNL policies, including facility usage, event planning, and safety procedures.
